Trinity to Feature in Film

Fixtures Announced

Gainsborough Trinity are to feature in a new feature length documentary film called 'Football - Birth, Growth, Domination' with filming scheduled to take place this July. The independent film is being backed by a crowd funding campaign and Holy Blues supporters can get involved by visiting kickstarter using the link below.

The film will chart the development of the game from the formation of the first football team, Sheffield FC and their 'Sheffield Rules' from 1858 and will chart the development of the game through to the famous 'Match of the Century' Where Puskas's Hungary side defeated England 6-3 at Wembley.

Trinity's connection will be through the central hero of the film, the Gainsborough born Fred Spiksley who's first professional contract was with Trinity in 1887. After playing 126 times for Trinity and scoring 131 goals Spiksley became a legendary player for Sheffield Wednesday and England before becoming the first professional coach to coach across three different continents.

Anyone who has read the successful Fred Spiksley biography, Flying Over An Olive Grove (Available in the club shop) will understand how Spiksley's amazing life helps track and pinpoint the development of football, showing its birth, growth and eventual world domination from an inside-out perspective.

Clive Nicholson, who is part of the team working on the film said "Football is the world's most popular sport and therefore a film about it's evolution has a broad appeal. There is a lot of interest in the film being broadcast across Latin America, so I'm looking forward to tell the world about Gainsborough Trinity Football Club. It would be great if supporters could get behind us, pledges start from £1 and even that will help us build the momentum needed for success."

There are a range of different rewards available on Kickstarter, including having your name in the film credits, and businesses can have their logo included at the start or end of the film. For more information please click here.
