Liam Hughes Puts Pen to Paper

Liam King last night swooped to capture his third signing as Interim Manager with the signing of Liam Hughes, following the signings of Ant Wilson from Frickley Athletic and the loan deal for George Hornshaw on a months loan from Scunthorpe United.

Liam Hughes put pen to paper yesterday, signing for Liam King's Gainsborough Trinity following the mutual termination of his deal with National League North side Darlington.

Born in Rotherham, Liam has made over 200 league appearances at Conference North level and above. His longest spell being at Cambridge United where he made 161 appearances netting thirteen times. Originally a defender, he was converted to a more attacking role, where he has been able to utilise his physical frame to unsettle opposition defences. At 6ft 4inches tall, 26 year old Hughes boasts a Wembley goal on his CV. Scoring the opening goal in the Conference play-off final against Gateshead.

Having also gained experience north of the border, with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hughes has also spent time at Barrow, Billericay and Corby. Liam is now keen to make an impression with the Holy Blues, "I'm happy to sign for the club and looking forward to hopefully helping get the club back to where the it belongs. Knowing Liam (King) and Ross (Hannah) played a huge part in my signing. I hope I can add to what’s already a good squad and now can’t wait to get started."

Obviously delighted with his capture, Trinity Interim Manager, Liam King described his signing saying: "Hughsey is a versatile player that is a good addition to the squad as he can play numerous positions. He has got bags of experience at the level above and the Conference Premier."
