It was a first half tap in by Rotherham’s Jamie Procter that settled the difference between them and The Holy Blues on Tuesday night at The Martin & Co Arena. It was a good battle between the two sides and Trinity may feel a little hard done by for coming away with a loss due to the talent and overall effort that was put on display by the home side.

The game saw Gainsborough’s own Thomas Davie take a crunching tackle which led him to be replaced by Charlie Gatter. However Davie mentioned after the match that it was only a dead leg and he would be fit to play Thursdays night’s game against Grantham Town FC in the Lincolnshire county senior cup semi-final.

Trinity rolled out with Richard Walton in goal making a fantastic reflex save mid-way through the second half to deny Rotherham of a second, stretching to the far top left corner to tip the ball away. Joining him in the starting lineup was; Josh Lacey, Tom Davie, Jonathan Williams, Michael Jacklin, Charlie Gatter, Craig King, Shane Clarke, Bradley Wells, Jordan Richards and Alex Simmons. The Holy Blues were pressing quite high to put the opposition under pressure in an attempt to counter the long, high balls that Rotherham kept trying to lift into their dangerous number 23.

Throughout the entirety of the match Dave Frecks’ team battled well and were knocking on the door but it just wasn’t meant to be as they couldn’t find the back of the net. They had the better of the chances despite there not being a whole lot created in total. A free kick in a dangerous area fairly late on in the game could have seen Trinity level but was struck hard and wide.
