Following Sunday’s announcement that Liam King & Ross Hannah were to take the job on a permanent basis, following a hugely positive spell in interim charge at the club, the duo have moved quickly to tie down key members of the highly efficient defence.

Centre backs Nathan Stainfield and Joe Maguire yesterday evening committed to another season at the Martin & Co Arena, meeting with the management duo to pen new deals ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The pair, part of the defence that conceded less than a goal a game across the league campaign, with the tightest defence on the road, letting in only 14 goals in 20 league games will be keen to better those stats next season.

Defensively Trinity have been superb, finishing the season with the joint third, fewest goals conceded, behind the sides that finished first, second and third in the table.

Liam King enthused, "The signing of these two gives us a fantastic platform to build on. They know what it's about to play for Trinity and the speed with which they've committed to what we are trying to build here is great news."

Nathan signs for a third season having initially joined from Spalding and has been an instantly recognisable man mountain at the back, even donning the gloves when the need arose.

Stainfield revealed, "I'm delighted to sign for another year and looking forward to hopefully improving on last season!"

Maguire extends his stay to a second season, after joining from Buxton last close season. A tough, uncompromising defender, comfortable on the ball, the developing partnership with Stainfield has been a highlight of King & Hannah's side with Joe stating, "I'm glad to have signed another year with Gainsborough Trinity, it is a great club with great fans! We will be looking to kick on next year and get promoted! Up the Trinity!"

Departures

In other news, following conversations with the management duo, Liam King revealed that players Ben Gordon, Ioan Evans, Neil Austin & Alex Byrne, will not be returning next season.

Neil Austin hangs his boots up following at eighteen year playing career; travelling commitments have become an issue for Byrne & Gordon, while Evans couldn't be guaranteed regular first team football.

We thank the quintet for their dedication to the cause and wish them every success in their future endeavours.
