Former Owl Swoops In To Join Holy Blues

Sam Topliss, a 24 year old defender, who started his career at Hull City, is the latest to commit to the squad Liam King and Ross Hannah are busy assembling. Most recently with Cleethorpes Town, Topliss also has experience at North Ferriby United and Alfreton Town, playing the majority of his football at the higher level.

An FA Trophy winner as a teenager, with North Ferriby, whilst on loan from Hull, Topliss will provide balance to the Trinity back line. This will add to Thomas Davie, Jamie Green, Joe Maguire, Nathan Hotte and Nathan Stainfield who have already stated their intention to compete at the top end of the Evo Stik Northern Premier League this time out.

King, who played with Sam at North Ferriby, commented, "I played with Sam for two years. He is capable of playing right back or wing back – very reliable week in week out. We know exactly what we’re going to get from him. He is a proven winner, won the FA Trophy and promotion from the National League North and he is only 24 years of age. It was a no brainer for me and Ross to get him in!"

Sam is obviously looking forward to getting started, declaring: "It’s a good local club that’s played at a high level for years and can hopefully get back up there into the National League North!"

Welcome to Gainsborough, Sam!
