Double Boost for Trinity

Double Boost for Trinity

Dominic Roma has moved into the transfer market to strengthen his small squad with the signing of two exciting midfielders that boast substantial experience, both in non league and the football league. The first of the two captures is Laurie Wilson, the son of former Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday and Chesterfield manager Danny Wilson.

The experienced midfielder signs for Trinity after a short spell at Frickley having been signed from Matlock Town. A leader wherever he has been, Wilson will look to stamp his mark on the midfield in much the same way as Matt Sparrow did before his return to Austrailia within a coaching capacity. Wilson previously won the National League North (then Conference North) title in 2011 whilst with Saturday’s opponents, Alfreton Town and looks to go straight into the sixteen for the weekend FA Trophy tie.

Upon signing, Wilson reflected: "I am looking forward to making the step up again and adding some experience to the team. I’ve got some fond memories of my time at Alfreton, it was a hard slog, sometimes playing twice a week for three months, but it was worth it to lift the trophy at the end of the season. I took a lot from my time there and hope I can pass on some of that experience to the youngsters here at Gainsborough, starting on Saturday!" Below is a video of the new signing scoring a memorable goal from the halfway line, whilst playing for Ilkeston against Blyth Spartans.

The second of the double signings is Adam Chapman. Doncaster born Chapman is also a central midfielder with a wealth of experience at the top table of the non-league game, and has also played over a hundred times Double Boost for Trinityin the football league in spells with Oxford United and Mansfield Town. Between 2007 & 2009 Chapman was capped seven times by Northern Ireland at under 21 level and this quality has been in evidence during the last month as Adam has trained with the club as he has worked his way back to match fitness.

In an impressive loan spell at Mansfield, Chapman scored four times in eleven league games, including a hat-trick against Stockport County on his home debut, an attacking threat Trinity boss Dominic Roma will be looking to tap into. "Chappy will add a lot of quality on the ball and to the team in general and can pop up with a goal or two, I am excited to bring him to Trinity and feel he will be a popular player with supporters!"

Jack McGovern is another new player having signed on the dotted line ahead of last weekends’ game at promotion chasing Kidderminster Harriers.
