Looking Ahead to FC United of Manchester

National League North duties resume this weekend for Gainsborough Trinity, who host FC United of Manchester at the Martin & Co Arena, 3pm this Saturday, attempting to get back to winning ways and resurrect their impressive home form seen earlier in the season. Trinity currently occupy 18th place in the league table after suffering three consecutive league defeats to Chorley, Stockport County, and Kidderminster Harriers respectively.

Festive Cheer as Blues Boosted by Noel signing

Exciting and highly versatile forward player Noel Burdett has signed for Gainsborough Trinity, on loan from near neighbours Scunthorpe United until the end of the season. Burdett originally signed for the Iron in January 2007. Born in Doncaster, Burdett can play all the way across midfield as well as up front and his signing boosts the options in Dominic Roma’s squad after a difficult period in front of goal during November, which had seen a previously free scoring Trinity side net only once in the month (Jordan Thewlis’ strike in the 4-1 AET defeat away at Alfreton Town in the FA Trophy).

Gainsborough Trinity 0 Chorley FC 2

Third-placed Chorley made up ground on second-placed Darlington at the Martin & Co Arena thanks to a 2-0 victory over Gainsborough Trinity. It was by no means an uneventful contest on Trinity’s part, with Dom Roma’s men very much matching the Magpies throughout. Things could have been different, however, if Marcus Carver’s 45-yard lob had successfully caught George Willis off his line after the 'keeper had raced out of his goal but failed to beat Carver to the ball. He was spared his blushes once the effort landed on the roof of the net.

Gainsborough secured their first away win of the season as they came from a goal down to defeat Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium. Matt Thornhill snatched the three points with a deflected strike from the edge of the area after good work from Nathan Jarman.
