Gainsborough Trinity secured their first win of the new season with a 1-0 win away to Nuneaton Town. Nuneaton will feel like they deserved perhaps at least a point at the LDJ Solicitors Stadium but the Holy Blues’ held on and celebrated the journey home from Warwickshire. Dave Frecklington made three changes to his side that lost out to Darlington midweek, bringing in debutant loanee goalkeeper Louis Jones from Doncaster Rovers, Josh Lacey for Charlie Gatter at right back and Jonathan Wafula in for the injured Alex Simmons (pulled quad) on the right side of midfield.

Gainsborough Trinity began their 2017/18 National League North campaign in a losing effort to newly promoted Leamington FC at the Martin & Co Arena. An Ashley Worsfold goal was not enough to keep Trinity in the game and defensive errors cost the Holy Blues.

In the latest instalment of Gainsborough Trinity’s pre-season preparations, the Holy Blues travelled to the Sun-hat Villas Stadium to face EVO-STIK South outfit Lincoln United. Dave Frecklington, returning to his previous employers decided to watch from the stands, meaning his assistant Terry Fleming took charge of proceedings. Former Leeds United and Lincoln City striker Robbie McDaid, on trial with Trinity started in a forward three alongside Nathan Jarman and Bradley Wells.

It was a first half tap in by Rotherham’s Jamie Procter that settled the difference between them and The Holy Blues on Tuesday night at The Martin & Co Arena. It was a good battle between the two sides and Trinity may feel a little hard done by for coming away with a loss due to the talent and overall effort that was put on display by the home side.

Gainsborough Trinity narrowly missed out on their first point of the 2017/18 season, losing in a seven-goal thriller to Darlington FC. Trinity looked to have salvaged a point at Blackwell Meadows but the Quakers’ relentless attack proved too much for the Holy Blues’ defence and saw them miss out agonisingly.

Following the final pre-season clash for Trinity, which saw a young XI fall short to a young Doncaster side, all eyes now focus onto Saturday where our National League campaign kicks-off, as we entertain Leamington at the Martin & Co Arena. The Holy Blues pre-season has been an extremely positive one, as Dave and Terry now look to have their desired squad going into the season. Testing several formations, trialists and tactics, the season ahead is going to be a thrilling one for sure!

Gainsborough Trinity last night, booked their place in the Lincolnshire Senior County Cup final with a 3-2 victory over Grantham Town at the Martin & Co Arena, following goals from Jonathan Williams, Nathan Stainfield and Nathan Jarman. Grantham had the first clear cut chance of the sunlit evening in Gainsborough, when Jordan Hepenstall’s shot inside the box narrowly missed the far post, taking a deflection on the way out for a corner kick.

Busy Week Ahead - Match Previews

As a result of Saturday’s 4-1 victory over a youthful Lincoln City side, Trinity find themselves with a midweek double header at the Martin & Co Arena, where the Holy Blues first entertain League One Rotherham United, before welcoming Grantham Town in the Semi Finals of the Lincolnshire County Cup.

A hectic period of three games in five days is complete with the short trip to Lincoln United on Saturday, when the Blues travel to the Sun Hats Villas & Resorts Stadium for a 3:30 kick off. We have been advised that the later than normal kick off time is to prevent a clash with the Lincoln City vs Peterborough United pre-season friendly that kicks off at 1pm in the City.
