On a gloriously sunny afternoon in Greater Manchester, Gainsborough Trinity lost out in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup to a revitalised Altrincham as the Greater Manchester curse struck again for Dominic Roma’s Holy Blues. A bright start for the visiting Blues saw them in front from the penalty spot. James Reid confidently despatching high to the goalkeepers’ left after Jordan Thewlis had his direct run halted by Altrincham skipper Alan Goodall.

Stalybridge Celtic 3 Gainsborough Trinity 2

Gainsborough Trinity, not for the first time this season, lost by the odd goal in five away from home in Greater Manchester. The circumstances were all too similar with Trinity once again starting the game brightly and getting in front, before seeing the game turned on it’s head, losing a man to a straight red card, before showing character and courage to get back into the game, only to be denied a share of the spoils due to a defensive lapse in the closing stages.

Gainsborough captain Nathan Jarman grabbed a point for the Blues as Trinity came from behind to draw at home to Brackley. Jarman volleyed home from a corner as Gainsborough pegged back their visitors who remained unbeaten away from home this campaign. Blues boss Roma made three changes to the side which lost narrowly at Salford. Illness ruled out the electric Darnelle Bailey-King, with a slight knock ruling out Jake Picton. Matt Wilson and Jake Scott came in for them whilst Jacob Hazel came in for Gavin Rothery.

Gainsborough Trinity 2 Altrincham 0

Gainsborough secured their first win of the season as two second half goals capped a good performance from Dominic Roma's men. Ashley Worsfold opened the scoring just after the break before Gavin Rothery sealed the win with a late tap in. It was a much better display from the Blues and one that put to bed the three defeats in a row. The Blues were defensively sound and finally got that rub of the green in front of goal that Trinity boss Roma said 'would even itself out over the season'.

Ashley Worsfold grabbed a second half double to make it seven points from the last three home games as Trinity swept aside AFC Telford. Worsfold scored in injury time to secure the victory as the Bucks finished with nine players. The former Alfreton striker had already seen a penalty saved by the time he notched his first, sweeping home a Jordan Thewlis cross to make it 2-0 after the hour. Telford did pull a goal back to make it a touch nervy until the lack of players took its toll.

Gainsborough Trinity recorded their first point on the road, away at Worcester City on Saturday afternoon, but for many it was a case of two points dropped having gone in at the half time interval two goals to the good. A bright opening period saw chances for both sides, the first falling for Jacob Hazel after he was played in brilliantly by Gavin Rothery. The Worcester goalkeeper, out quickly to thwart the Trinity number ten.

Gainsborough Trinity started their Bank Holiday double header with a narrow defeat away at much fancied Salford City. A bright start for Trinity in their volt strip saw them take a lead inside the opening five minutes, with Ashley Worsfold rising highest to power home a header off the underside of the bar from a Matt Thornhill corner, before two goals in two minutes, five before the break turned the game on its’ head.

Attacking Options Bolstered with Loan Move

Dominic Roma has moved to bolster his sides attacking options after a disappointing opening to the season which has so far seen the side fail to pick up a win. The move to secure the signature of teenage forward, Darcell Bailey-King is hoped to provide a fresh injection of pace in the final third and comes highly recommended by former Trinity manager, Neil Warnock and Rotherham United Youth Coach, Ciaran Toner a former Gainsborough favourite.
